Amid Kailash Gahlot's Resignation From AAP, Speculation Of BJP Switch Grows
Delhi Minister Kailash Gahlot resigned from the AAP with immediate effect on Sunday, citing "recent controversies" and "unfulfilled promises." Speculation suggests the senior politician may join the BJP in the coming days.
AAP leaders allege Gahlot was left with no choice due to ongoing cases by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

"Kailash Gahlot's resignation is part of the BJP's dirty politics and conspiracy. BJP government conducted ED raids on him, and Income Tax officials raided his residence for several days. They accused him of misappropriating Rs 112 crores. The pressure created by these actions forced Kailash Gahlot to take this step. He had no option but to join the BJP," stated AAP MP Sanjay Singh.
In his resignation letter addressed to Arvind Kejriwal, Gahlot highlighted "grave challenges" facing the party, along with "awkward" and "embarrassing" controversies such as the 'sheeshmahal' scandal that have surfaced in recent months. The developments occur as preparations intensify for the Delhi Assembly elections scheduled for February next year.
AAP spokesperson Priyanka Kakkar also criticised the BJP, accusing them of instigating "conspiracies" in the lead-up to the elections. She remarked that Gahlot's decision to join the BJP stemmed from the "difficulty of struggling in jail."
"ED and CBI have been activated. There were several cases by ED and CBI against Kailash Gahlot and his family. So, he decided it was better to join the BJP than face imprisonment," Kakkar added.
The BJP has remained noncommittal about Gahlot's induction. However, Delhi BJP President Virendra Sachdeva praised Gahlot for taking "a very courageous step." Reports quoting Sachdeva indicated that the party has no proposal for the former AAP leader at present.
"Gahlot stepped down citing the very issues the BJP has been protesting and fighting against Kejriwal and the AAP. His resignation demonstrates that even AAP leaders no longer see Kejriwal as an honest politician," Sachdeva remarked.
