AIUDF Leader Badruddin Ajmal Appeals To Muslims To Support AAP In Delhi Elections 2025

Assam's All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) leader Badruddin Ajmal has urged secular voters, particularly Muslims in Delhi, to support the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in the upcoming assembly elections. Ajmal expressed concern over the country's current state and emphasised the importance of not splitting secular votes.

Ajmal is a well-known Muslim figure in Assam and has been involved in controversies for backing illegal Bangladeshi migrants residing in Assam. AIUDF was established to safeguard Muslim interests after the Supreme Court annulled the Illegal Migrants (Determination by Tribunal) Act (IMDT).

IMDT Act and Its Impact

The IMDT Act, introduced in 1983, was largely ineffective. It contained provisions that made it challenging for authorities to identify or deport illegal Bangladeshi immigrants from Assam. This legislation remained mostly theoretical without practical enforcement.

Ajmal further stated that Muslims in Delhi should vote for AAP. He highlighted that people have chosen AAP for two consecutive terms due to their performance and should continue supporting them this time as well.

Reactions from Political Parties

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) reacted strongly to Ajmal's remarks. BJP leaders accused him of attempting to polarise voters along religious lines. They criticised his appeal as an effort to influence voting based on religion.

Ajmal's call for unity among secular voters comes at a crucial time. The political landscape is tense, and his statements have added fuel to ongoing debates about voter influence and religious politics.
