Activist Anna Hazare pledges support for OROP

New Delhi, July 7: Social activist Anna Hazare on Monday announced his support to the One Rank One Pension (OROP) Scheme.

Reports suggest that Hazare wrote to ex-servicemen, who have been fighting for OROP and pledged his support to them. He is likely to launch a massive stir with the ex servicemen demanding OROP.

Meanwhile, after facing protest from ex-servicemen last week, Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar said that complications in OROP were sorted out.

The ex-servicemen have been sitting on relay hunger strike since June 15. On Friday, 56 veterans sat on hunger strike.

The OROP has been a long-standing demand of ex-servicemen and relates to payment of uniform pension to defense forces personnel retiring in the same rank with the same length of service, irrespective of their date of retirement.
