AAP wants holiday in NCR on December 4 to make voting convenient

New Delhi, Nov 29: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), which many think could be a surprise package in the upcoming Delhi assembly polls of December 4, has requested the Election Commission (EC) and the Centre to declare the polling day as a holiday in the National Capital Region (NCR) on the lines of Delhi so that people working in these areas can cast their ballots.

Yogendra Yadav, a leader of the party, said there are many first-time voters who live in Delhi but work in NCR areas like Noida, Gurgaon and Faridabad. He said they could be given an off on December 4, which is a holiday in Delhi, so that they could exercise the franchise.

Yadav said the AAP would urge the EC and the Centre to talk to the neighbouring states to declare a holiday on December 4.

The AAP feels those working in the NCR could find it difficult to vote

Meanwhile, senior lawyer and AAP leader Prashant Bhushan admitted that five of their party candidates have criminal cases against them but none are as serious as the ones against those of the Congress and the BJP. The Association of Democratic Reforms found criminal cases levelled against five candidates of the party.
