AAP Accuses BJP Of Spreading Fake Video On Delhi Roads Ahead Of Elections
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has lodged an official complaint with the Delhi Election Commission, accusing the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of spreading misinformation through a video that claims to show Delhi's poor road conditions, as reported by India Today.
The video, which was shared by the Delhi BJP's social media accounts on January 6, features two women traveling in an auto through a road filled with potholes. They express frustration over the road’s deplorable condition, allegedly in Delhi. However, AAP has claimed that the footage was actually shot in Faridabad, Haryana, not Delhi.

AAP Demands Immediate Action
With Delhi's assembly elections scheduled for February 5, the timing of the video’s release has added fuel to the already intense political rivalry between the AAP, BJP, and Congress. The AAP has demanded the immediate removal of the video from all BJP social media platforms, accusing the party of attempting to mislead voters just weeks before the crucial elections, as reported by India Today.
In its complaint, AAP pointed out that the video’s portrayal of Delhi roads was not only misleading but also a violation of several legal provisions. The party has cited multiple sections of the Representation of People’s Act (RPA), the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), and the Information Technology Act.
AAP Accuses BJP of Electoral Malpractice
The AAP has also accused the BJP of breaching the Model Code of Conduct (MCC), which governs the behavior of political parties during elections. According to AAP, the video is part of an attempt to undermine the credibility of Delhi’s current infrastructure and mislead the public during a time of intense electoral competition.
AAP’s complaint demands that the Election Commission:
- Remove the video from BJP’s social media channels.
- Take legal action against the BJP for spreading false information.
- Prevent the BJP from disseminating further misleading content during the election process.
The AAP has emphasized that such actions if left unchecked, could harm the sanctity of the electoral process and create a precedent for other forms of misinformation. The party has called for stringent measures to maintain electoral integrity, as per media reports.
Election Commission's Response Awaited
As of now, the Delhi Election Commission has not issued an official response to AAP’s complaint. The party’s call for swift action comes at a critical time, as political tensions in the capital continue to escalate ahead of the February 5 elections.
