20-Year-Old NEET Aspirant Dies By Suicide In Delhi’s Adarsh Nagar, Cremation Halted By Police

A 20-year-old woman preparing for the NEET examination was found dead at her residence in northwest Delhi's Adarsh Nagar on Thursday. Police said the woman's family later attempted to cremate the body without informing authorities, prompting immediate intervention from officials.

The incident came to light after police received a PCR call regarding a body being taken to the Kewal Park Shamshan Ghat on May 14. Officers rushed to the cremation ground and identified the deceased as a resident of Lal Bagh in Azadpur.

Police Intervene At Cremation Ground

According to police officials, the woman's relatives had transported the body directly to the cremation ground before completing the mandatory legal procedures. Authorities stopped the cremation and took custody of the body for further investigation.

"Family members, unaware of the legal procedures to be followed after a death, transported the body to the cremation ground instead of informing the police," the officer said.

The body was later shifted to the mortuary at BJRM Hospital for a post-mortem examination.

Initial Probe Suggests Suicide

During preliminary investigation, police found that the woman allegedly died by suicide by hanging inside her home. Officials said the exact circumstances surrounding the death are being examined as part of the ongoing inquiry.

The Crime Team and the Forensic Science Laboratory also inspected the house to collect evidence and document the scene.

Investigation Underway

Police stated that legal proceedings are currently being carried out as per protocol. Authorities are awaiting the post-mortem report, which is expected to provide further clarity regarding the cause of death.

The incident has once again drawn attention to the mental health pressures faced by students preparing for highly competitive entrance examinations such as NEET.
