New Delhi, Jul 5: Two sharp-shooters of a gang were today arrested in Shastri Park, police said.
The accused, identified as Rizwan Imran, (20) and Riyaz Khanda, (31), both residents of Delhi, were arrested near the Jagpravesh Chander Hospital, Pramod Singh Kushwah, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Special Cell), said
Two semi-automatic pistols of 7.67 mm with 11 live cartridges were also recovered from them, he said.
On July 1, police received an information that two members of the Chhainu gang would meet one of their contacts to exchange weapons to kill three members of a rival group led by Nasir, the official said.
Subsequently, a trap was laid near the hospital where both the accused were spotted at 3 am.
When the accused were asked to surrender, they whipped out their pistols towards police team and threatened to fire. However, police overpowered them, Kushwah said.
During interrogation, the accused revealed that they were directed by Irfan Chhainu to carry out three targeted killings of rival gang members to settle scores with Nasir, he said.
One of the targets was brother of deceased Asif, who was shot dead by members of Nasir, Kushwah said.
Gang war between Nasir and Irfan Chhainu started in the year 2012 over supremacy.
Irfan Chhainu is presently lodged in the Tihar jail.
In 2012, Atif, a friend of Nasir and Hasim Baba was shot dead by Akil Don, a member of the Irfan Chhainu gang.
To avenge killing of Asif, members of the Nasir gang killed Hazi Mateen, an associate of Irfan Chhainu in Jafrabad and the fierce gang rivalry started between the two gangs.
Ten persons of both the gangs have lost their lives because of their rivalry, police said.
