Yamini Yashwant Jadhav: Warrior Of Byculla Gets Another Chance At Victory
Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde announced the list of candidates for the upcoming Assembly elections, with sitting MLA Yamini Yashwant Jadhav being nominated for the Byculla constituency in Mumbai.
She is known for her aggressive, well-researched, and articulate approach. Over the past five years, Jadhav has established her own identity in the Byculla constituency through her work and oratory.

Yamini Yashwant Jadhav is the wife of Yashwant Jadhav, Shiv Sena leader and former chairman of the Standing Committee of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC).
Yashwant Jadhav was first elected as a municipal councillor in 1997, and again in 2007.
In 2012, Yamini Jadhav entered the municipal election fray for the first time and contested on a Shiv Sena ticket. She was elected from the Mazgaon area to the BMC in 2012, where she showcased her work ethic and intellectual approach.
Operation of Baby Feeding Centers
Recognising the difficulties faced by lactating mothers in public spaces, she initiated baby feeding centers. She insisted that personal benefit schemes should reach beneficiaries in every ward of Mumbai.
Her long speeches on the BMC budget were a hallmark of her career. She has made invaluable contributions to several policy decisions taken by the BMC.
Though she was defeated in the 2017 municipal elections, in 2019 she was given a ticket by Shiv Sena to contest from the Byculla assembly constituency.
Since 2004, the Byculla constituency had eluded Shiv Sena. In 2014, Waris Pathan of the All India Majlis-e-Ittehad-ul-Muslimeen (AIMIM) won from this constituency. Defeating both former MLAs Madhukar Chavan of the Congress and Waris Pathan of AIMIM, Yamini Jadhav entered the assembly in 2019.
Remarkable Work During COVID-19
During the COVID-19 pandemic, Yamini Jadhav and her fellow Shiv Sainiks carried out significant work. Major hospitals like JJ Hospital, KEM Hospital, and Kasturba Hospital are located in the Byculla constituency. She started providing free meals to the relatives of patients admitted to these hospitals during the pandemic.
Food and essential supplies were delivered door-to-door to the needy in the constituency. Special attention was given to artists living hand-to-mouth, while rations were delivered to transgenders. Vaccination drives were also conducted at the homes of senior citizens.
Beautification of Public Squares
Byculla is a constituency in the heart of Mumbai and is known for its diverse population. However, Yamini Jadhav worked without any caste or religious discrimination.
The beautification of public squares has been one of her most important initiatives. She beautified squares like Govind Parab Chowk, Maharana Pratap Chowk, and Khada Parsi, as well as gave protective walls an attractive appearance.
Her initiatives like the food truck program, providing self-employment opportunities to local women, and the mobile library promoting reading culture, are highlights of her tenure.
Support for BEST
The Darukhana area in the Byculla constituency had been deprived of water for many years, with its residents relying entirely on water tankers.
With the cooperation of her husband Yashwant Jadhav, she succeeded in providing water to the Darukhana area.
The free ambulance service introduced by Yamini Jadhav has benefited many patients. She also made efforts toward the redevelopment of the over 100-year-old BIT chawls, benefiting 1,347 families.
She allocated Rs 50 crore to Mumbai's public transport body, BEST, which was used for the purchase of buses, repair of depots, and maintenance of employee colonies.
The installation of a grand equestrian statue of Maharana Pratap at Maharana Pratap Chowk, one of the busiest intersections in the constituency, was another major achievement. A beautifully inscribed preamble to the Constitution has also been erected at the same location.
A Mountain of Work in Five Years
Yamini Jadhav has made relentless efforts to establish and provide facilities at the Marine Police Station, responsible for Mumbai's coastal security.
She has aggressively raised redevelopment issues in the assembly, including the PMGP buildings, cess buildings, and hospital facilities.
She also highlighted the drug problem. She followed up on the construction of a scenic observation deck on the Gaondevi Hill, a project inaugurated by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde. Additionally, she worked toward getting the Gaondevi Hill area recognized as a tourist destination.
Increased Chances of Victory
Various blood donation camps, health check-up camps, eye camps, and umbrella distribution programs are regularly organised through the Jadhav family.
She also takes the lead in recognizing meritorious students, and supporting various sports and cultural events. Through these diverse activities, she has maintained a strong connection with the people.
She is respected by all communities. The Uddhav Thackeray faction or the Maha Vikas Aghadi has not yet announced their candidate for this constituency, and AIMIM is also preparing to field a candidate, increasing Yamini Jadhav's chances of victory in Byculla slightly more.
