Water Cut Every Week In Panvel: Check The Area-Wise Schedule
Panvel City residents will face a one-day water cut every week starting from Thursday, according to a Hindustan Times (HT) report. The Panvel Municipal Corporation (PMC) has taken this decision due to a shortage of water from its sources, along with the declining water level in Dehrang dam. Officials have stated that the dam does not have enough water to last until the arrival of the monsoon.
The civic body has released a timetable specifying the areas that will face a water cut on each day of the week. Different areas will have their supply stopped on different days. This measure will affect more than three lakh people in the city.

The last water cut in Panvel took place on December 29, 2024. The city requires 32 million litres per day (MLD) of water. PMC receives 15 MLD from Maharashtra Jeevan Pradhikaran (MJP) and 5 MLD from the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC). The remaining 12 MLD is sourced from the Appasaheb Vedak dam, which is owned by PMC and plays a crucial role in supplying water to the city.
According to Vilas Chavan, PMC's Deputy Engineer for Water Supply, the water supply from MJP's Patalganga river reduces every Sunday and Monday. Additionally, power shutdowns and technical breakdowns often disrupt the supply from both MJP and MIDC. In such situations, PMC relies on Dehrang dam to meet the city's water needs.
"This has significantly reduced the water stock in Dehrang dam. To ensure that the available water lasts until June 15, we are introducing a one-day water cut every week," said Chavan. He also confirmed that there will be no water cuts on Sundays.
The water cut schedule is as follows:
- Friday: Areas supplied by the ESR at Gol Water Treatment Plant (WTP)
- Saturday: Areas under ESR at Gangaram Theatre
- Monday: ESRs at Market Yard, Vegetable Market, and Chaukani WTP
- Tuesday: Patel Mohalla and Pioneer ESRs
- Wednesday: HOC ESR
- Thursday: No supply for Thana Naka ESR
In an effort to improve the water supply system, a new water pipeline is being installed under Phase 3 of the Nhava Sheva Water Supply Project. This will help fix leaks caused by the ageing and rusted pipeline. Additionally, a pump house that sources water from the Patalganga river is expected to be completed by April. Once completed, at least half of the water from this project will be supplied to PMC areas, bringing much-needed relief to Panvel city.
