Watch | Mumbai Viral Video: Thousands Rush For Air India Jobs, Kalina Sees Stampede-Like Scene
A stampede-like situation unfolded in Kalina, Mumbai, as over a thousand people gathered for a walk-in interview at Air India Air Transport Services Limited (AIASL). The massive turnout overwhelmed the area, leading officials to instruct applicants to submit their resumes and leave to ensure safety.
The chaos arose after AIASL released a recruitment notice for several positions at Mumbai International Airport. The document invited candidates for a walk-in interview at the GSD Complex, near Sahar Police Station, CSMI Airport, Terminal-2, Gate No. 5, Sahar, Andheri-East, Mumbai.

The notice indicated vacancies for various posts on a fixed-term contract basis of three years, with a possibility of renewal, based on performance and the company's requirements. It also noted that reservations would follow Presidential Directives, with actual reservation of vacancies dependent on the prevailing strength at the time of appointment.
The specific positions mentioned included:
- Terminal Manager (Passenger): 2 vacancies
- Deputy Terminal Manager (Passenger): 9 vacancies
- Duty Manager (Passenger): 19 vacancies
- Duty Officer (Passenger): 42 vacancies
- Junior Officer (Customer Services): 45 vacancies
- Ramp Manager: 2 vacancies
- Deputy Ramp Manager: 6 vacancies
- Duty Manager (Ramp): 40 vacancies
- Junior Officer (Technical): 91 vacancies
The situation escalated as videos circulated on social media, showing thousands of people rushing towards the interview centre, with some climbing vehicles and trees to gain an advantage. Vani Mehrotra uploaded a video on X, formerly known as Twitter with the caption, "This is Mumbai's Kalina, where a massive crowd of job seekers emerged as the Air India Airport Services Ltd announced walk-in interviews. The situation soon went out of control and the candidates were asked to leave their CVs and vacate the area."

George Abram, General Secretary of the Aviation Industry Employees Guild, described the recruitment process as "mismanaged."
This incident follows a similar occurrence in Gujarat's Bharuch, where a job interview organised by Thermax Company for just 10 positions attracted hundreds of applicants, resulting in a crowded and chaotic scene.
Despite the challenges, AIASL has assured that all submitted CVs will be reviewed, and eligible candidates will be contacted for further steps in the recruitment process.
