The footage quickly went viral, sparking widespread speculation about the cause of the accident. While some suggested brake failure, others pointed to reckless driving as the primary factor behind the crash.

Recent Hit-And-Run Incidents

This incident is part of a troubling trend of hit-and-run accidents in Maharashtra. In May, a 17-year-old boy driving a Porsche under the influence of alcohol collided with a motorcycle, resulting in the deaths of two IT professionals in Pune's Kalyani Nagar area. The case drew significant public outrage when the accused was granted bail with minimal conditions, including writing an essay and providing a surety from his grandfather.

Another recent case involved Mihir Shah, the son of a Shiv Sena leader, who was driving a car that killed a 45-year-old woman. Shah's vehicle dragged the woman for a kilometre. The police reported that Shah and his driver removed the woman's body from the car and then switched places, with the driver running over her again. Shah, who had been evading arrest, was eventually apprehended by the police along with his mother and sister.

In light of these incidents, Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has expressed grave concern over the rising number of hit-and-run cases. He assured that no one, regardless of their social status or wealth, would be exempt from justice. "I am deeply alarmed by the rise in hit-and-run incidents in Maharashtra. It is intolerable that the powerful and influential misuse their status to manipulate the system. Such miscarriages of justice will not be tolerated by my Government," he stated.

The increasing frequency of such accidents has intensified calls for stricter enforcement and accountability to ensure road safety and justice for victims.
