Vashi Creek Bridge Gets A New Flyover, Opening Soon
Motorists travelling on the Sion-Panvel route will soon experience smoother journeys as the new flyover on the Vashi Creek Bridge nears its opening, according to a Lokmat report. The construction of the flyover for vehicles travelling from Vashi to Mankhurd has been completed, and authorities are now awaiting its official inauguration.
The existing six-lane bridge over the Vashi Creek, which connects Mankhurd and Navi Mumbai, was opened in 1994. However, due to a significant rise in traffic over the years, the bridge has become inadequate, leading to frequent congestion, especially near the Vashi toll plaza.
To address this issue, the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) has undertaken the construction of two additional bridges. One of these, meant for vehicles travelling from Mankhurd to Vashi, was opened for traffic in October last year. The second bridge, designed for vehicles heading from Vashi to Mankhurd, is now complete, with only the final touches, such as painting and pillar work, remaining.
A senior MSRDC official has confirmed that traffic will soon be allowed on the newly built bridge. Once operational, the new flyover will significantly ease congestion on the Vashi Creek Bridge and speed up travel times between Vashi and Mankhurd, particularly during peak hours.
Project Details
To improve traffic flow, MSRDC has constructed two new bridges, each with three lanes, parallel to the existing bridge. These additional flyovers, built at a cost of Rs 559 crore, are expected to provide much-needed relief to commuters.
The total length of each new bridge is approximately 1,837 metres, with an access road of 380 metres from the Mumbai side. Once both bridges are fully operational, they will help in reducing travel time and improving overall traffic movement on this crucial route.
