Unlocking Thane's Traffic: Chedda Nagar Flyover's Opening Date Approaches

Good news awaits motorists heading towards Thane on the Eastern Express Highway (EEH). The flyover at Chedda Nagar junction is expected to be completed by the end of August, promising to alleviate the long-standing congestion issues.

According to a report by Mid-day, a source close to the project said, "We are expecting to complete the work on the Thane-bound flyover near Chedda Nagar junction on EEH by the end of August. It will be opened for motorists at the earliest. To date, a total of Rs 230 crore has been spent on constructing this flyover."

Daily commuters travelling northbound on the EEH from Sion to Thane frequently encounter traffic jams near the Chedda Nagar junction during peak hours in the morning and evening. The congestion extends to Amar Mahal junction, prompting authorities to focus on traffic management at these busy intersections on the EEH.

The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has undertaken the Chedda Nagar junction traffic improvement project at an estimated cost of Rs 249 crore. The project includes the construction of three flyovers and one vehicular subway. The newly opened three-lane Ghatkopar flyover, connecting Chedda Nagar to the Santacruz-Chembur Link Road (SCLR), is part of this initiative.

Mid-day quoted businessman Jay Kotak, a regular user of the EEH, "This is an important junction as more than 60,000 vehicles pass through it daily. The completion of the northbound flyover will help solve the traffic issues that occur during evening peak hours between the Chembur flyover and Chedda Nagar junction."

The evening sees a significant increase in traffic flow towards Chedda Nagar, as motorists from Sion head towards Ghatkopar and Thane via the EEH. With over 60,000 vehicles passing through this junction daily, the completion of the flyover will be a significant relief.

The new flyover is expected to save motorists both time and fuel, providing a smoother and more efficient commute.
