Travel Advisory: Check Updates On Today's Five-Hour Mumbai Local Train Service Disruption

Mumbai's local trains are a lifeline for college students, blue-collar workers, entrepreneurs, and many other citizens. The city's suburban railway network operates on three main lines: the Western Line, the Central Line, and the Harbour Line. These lines are managed by the Central Railway.

Western Line Operations

The Western Line is one of India's key railway routes, linking Mumbai with its suburbs and other cities in Maharashtra. This line stretches from Churchgate to Dahanu Road and starts operations at 04:15 AM. It has 39 stations, including some of Mumbai's iconic landmarks.

Fast trains on the Western Line typically stop at Mumbai Central, Dadar, Bandra, Andheri, and Borivali in both directions. However, from 17:24 to 20:21 in the up direction, fast trains do not halt between Mumbai Central and Churchgate. Similarly, in the down direction, certain fast trains skip stops between Churchgate and Mumbai Central from 07:30 to 10:57.

Central Line Details

The Central Line runs through the heart of Mumbai and its suburbs. The main route is a Y-shaped line starting from Mumbai CST and splitting at Kalyan to end at Kasara and Khopoli. From Diva, train lines extend to Vasai Road and Panvel. Additionally, a line runs from Thane towards Uran City.

This line has 62 stations and is crucial for daily commuters. Trains on this route begin at 4 AM with services departing every few minutes from terminal stations like Dadar and Kalyan. There are two types of trains: slow trains that stop at all stations and fast trains that only halt at major stations.

A fast train from CSMT to Kalyan takes about 1 hour and 12 minutes, while a slow train covers the same distance in approximately 1 hour and 27 minutes.

Harbour Line Overview

The Harbour Line serves Mumbai's eastern neighbourhoods near its natural harbour. This line has three termini: Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT), Panvel, and Goregaon. It operates on the Panvel-Goregaon, CSMT-Goregaon, and CSMT-Panvel routes.

This double line runs parallel to the Central Railway for several stations starting at CSMT. From Wadala Road Station, it splits into two corridors at Ravli. One ends at Goregaon Station, connecting with the Western Line at Mahim. The other splits further into two lines reaching Navi Mumbai-one going to Thane and the other to Panvel.

The Harbour Line has a total of 35 stations. Services usually start at 4 AM and continue until 1 AM.

Mumbai Train Service Disruption Today

Today, Mumbai Local Train services will be disrupted for five hours between Mahim and Goregaon due to essential maintenance work by the Mumbai Railway Undertaking (MRU). The disruption will occur from 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM on both UP and DOWN Harbour lines between these stations.

As a result, several trains running on the Churchgate-Goregaon Slow Service may be cancelled. Travellers are advised to avoid this route during the maintenance period and plan their journeys accordingly.

Mumbai's local train network remains an essential part of daily life for millions of commuters. Despite occasional disruptions for maintenance work, these services continue to connect various parts of the city efficiently.
