Traffic Update: Kalyan-Sheel Phata Road To Close For 5 Days; Alternative Routes And Dates Inside

In a bid to expedite the completion of the delayed Rail Over Bridge (ROB) at Palava Junction near Nilje Railway Station, Central Railway, in collaboration with the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC), has announced a major traffic diversion, according to a Times Now report. The Kalyan-Sheel Phata road will be closed to all traffic from midnight on February 5 until February 10 to allow the final work on the railway portion of the bridge to be completed.

The closure will significantly affect traffic flow, especially for commuters travelling between Kalyan, Dombivli, Ulhasnagar, Ambarnath, and Navi Mumbai. The Thane Traffic Department has urged vehicle owners to use alternative routes during this period. They also advised commuters coming from Navi Mumbai and its surrounding areas to plan their journeys accordingly, as reported by TOI.

Kalyan-Sheel Phata Road

For heavy vehicles travelling from Kalyan to Navi Mumbai, the Thane traffic police have recommended taking the Katai-Badlapur Pipeline Road, which leads to Taloja. Light vehicle drivers, on the other hand, are advised to use the Dombivli-Mankoli route, which connects to the Mumbai-Nashik Highway. From there, they can reach Navi Mumbai via the Mumbra bypass. Likewise, those travelling from Sheel Phata to Kalyan are encouraged to take the Taloja or Mankoli routes.

The ROB at Palava Junction, which connects Kalyan to Navi Mumbai, has faced multiple delays due to technical issues, causing significant traffic problems for local commuters. Many have been calling for its swift completion. Central Railway has announced that it will install the girder and undertake other essential technical work, after which MSRDC will complete the remaining construction.

Once the bridge is fully operational, it is expected to ease traffic congestion and improve connectivity in the area, benefiting thousands of commuters who have been affected by the prolonged roadwork. The completion of this project is anticipated to make daily travel smoother for residents of Kalyan, Dombivli, and Navi Mumbai.
