Thane Municipal Corporation Schedules 24-Hour Water Supply Interruption For Maintenance In August 2023

The Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) has scheduled a 24-hour water supply interruption in various parts of Thane.According to Free Press Journal This will occur from noon on Thursday, August 21, to noon on Friday, August 22. The shutdown is necessary for maintenance and repair work at the Jambhul Water Purification Centre. Areas affected include parts of Mumbra (zones 26 and 31), as well as all regions under the Kalla Water Supply Committee.

Residents in Rupadei Pada, Gakshinir No. 2, Nehrunagar, Manpada Prasadgamit, and Kolshet Khalcha Vad will also face a complete water cut during this period. The TMC has urged citizens to use water wisely and cooperate with authorities. Once the water supply resumes, it may be at low pressure for one to two days.

Impact of Heavy Rainfall

In another development, continuous heavy rainfall over two days has severely affected Thane, Bhiwandi, Kalyan, Dombivli, and Ulhasnagar. This intense downpour has led to widespread flooding and waterlogging in several residential areas. Bhiwandi and Mumbra have been particularly hard hit by these conditions.

The relentless rain has not only disrupted daily life but also caused significant traffic congestion. Local rivers are nearing dangerous levels due to the downpour. The Kamwari River is especially concerning as floodwaters have already entered homes in low-lying areas near Nadi Naka.

Flooding Concerns

Bhiwandi is experiencing severe flooding in multiple locations. Areas such as the Teen Batti vegetable market, Anjurphata-Kasheli Road near Holy Mary School, Nadi Naka Road, Mithpada Road, Gafur Basti, and Kalyan Road are submerged under water.

Shrikant Pardeshi, PRO of the Bhiwandi City Nizampura Municipal Corporation stated: "We have announced to the residents from Handi Compound, Sangampada, MHADA Colony, Azmi Nagar, and Kakubai Chawl to relocate a municipal school if the water level increases. We've also arranged 3,000 meal kits for them."

The situation remains critical as authorities continue to monitor river levels closely. Residents are advised to stay alert and follow any instructions issued by local officials for their safety.
