As wedding bells ring for Sarang Lakhani and Revati Sule, the upcoming union has sparked not just social buzz but political curiosity as well. The marriage brings together two influential families from Maharashtra - one rooted in cooperative politics and the other in business and infrastructure - and in the process, it has triggered fresh discussion around Arun Lakhani's perceived proximity to the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS).

Sarang Lakhani, an MBA graduate from Columbia Business School and Executive Director at the Nagpur-based Vishvaraj Group, is set to marry Revati Sule, daughter of NCP (SP) leader Supriya Sule and granddaughter of veteran leader Sharad Pawar. The match, according to reports, was facilitated by senior BJP leaders including Union Minister Nitin Gadkari and Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis - a detail that has only added to the political intrigue.

At the centre of the speculation is Sarang's father, Arun Lakhani - a well-known businessman and social figure in Nagpur. Lakhani serves as Chairman of the Vishvaraj Group, a company that has carved a niche in water sustainability, wastewater management and infrastructure development across India. While he is largely viewed as an entrepreneur with strong civic engagement, recent online chatter has focused on his past association with RSS events.

A photograph of Arun Lakhani alongside RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat has been widely circulated on social media, prompting questions about his ideological leanings. The image dates back to a 2018 function where Bhagwat released a commemorative souvenir titled Amrutkumbh to mark the platinum jubilee celebrations of the Hindu Dharma-Sanskriti Mandir (HDSM) in Nagpur. Lakhani was among the prominent attendees at the event.

During that gathering, Bhagwat spoke at length about the meaning of "dharma" and "sanskriti," arguing that these concepts transcend the English term "religion." He emphasized that dharma is the moral force that binds society and discourages wrongdoing, describing it as foundational to building a strong nation. The RSS chief also praised HDSM for imparting knowledge free of cost for over seven decades.

Arun Lakhani's presence at the event has now been interpreted by some as evidence of ideological closeness to the RSS. However, there are no public records confirming any formal role or position held by him within the organization. Those familiar with Nagpur's civic circles note that business leaders and social workers often attend community and cultural events hosted by a range of institutions, including RSS-affiliated platforms, given the city's historic association with the organization.

The renewed focus on this connection is particularly notable because the Pawar family and the NCP have historically maintained political distance from the RSS and the BJP. Though Sharad Pawar did make headlines last year after offering measured praise for certain aspects of the RSS, he has never entered into a formal political alliance with the BJP.

Against this backdrop, the marriage of Sarang Lakhani and Revati Sule represents a convergence of diverse social and political networks. Revati, a graduate of St. Xavier's College and the London School of Economics, has largely stayed away from frontline politics, though she supported her mother during the recent Baramati Lok Sabha campaign.

Whether the spotlight on Arun Lakhani's past appearances at RSS-linked events carries deeper political meaning or remains a matter of social optics is open to interpretation. For now, what is clear is that a high-profile wedding has unexpectedly reopened conversations about ideology, association, and the intersections of business and politics in Maharashtra.
