Sion-Panvel Highway Features Thane Creek Bridges, Two Toll Plazas, And 70 kmph Speed Limit

The Sion-Panvel Highway is an important 25-kilometre road in Maharashtra. It connects Sion in Mumbai to Panvel, passing through Navi Mumbai. This highway helps people travel easily between the city and nearby areas.

According to a Times Now report, the highway was widened in 2014 beyond the Vashi Bridge in Navi Mumbai. It now has 10 lanes-five on each side-which helps reduce traffic and allows smooth driving. The highway begins in Sion, Mumbai, and ends at the Kalamboli junction near Panvel, where it meets the Mumbai-Pune Expressway.

Sion-Panvel Highway Features

The Sion-Panvel Highway passes through three major cities: Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, and Panvel. It plays a key role in connecting these regions. The total cost of building this highway was around Rs 1,220 crore. It includes major structures like the Thane Creek Bridge (TCB), TCB II, and TCB III.

To manage traffic and maintain the highway, two toll plazas have been set up. The maximum speed limit on the highway is 70 kilometres per hour. The project is jointly managed by the Public Works Department (PWD), the Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai (MCGM), and the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC), according to a report by Magic Bricks.

The highway has been fully open to the public since 2014 and is now operating smoothly.

In more good news for travellers, the final 76-kilometre stretch of the Mumbai-Nagpur Samruddhi Expressway-from Igatpuri to Amane-is likely to be inaugurated on May 1. On the same day, the southbound side of the Thane Creek Bridge is also expected to open, making travel even easier in the region.
