Sion-Panvel Highway Alert: Seven-Hour Traffic Restriction On March 7; Key Diversions Inside

Commuters who frequently use the Sion-Panvel Highway should take note that a seven-hour traffic restriction will be in place on March 7, according to a Times Now report. This measure is necessary to facilitate repair work on the Sanpada foot over-bridge (FOB), which suffered damage in an accident last month. The Public Works Department (PWD) has informed the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) and the traffic police about the planned closure.

Closure And Diversion

To ensure a safe environment for repair work, the authorities have decided to clear traffic from the affected area. As per reports, the NMMC has been advised to divert vehicles travelling from Vashi towards Panvel via Palm Beach Road before they merge back onto the Sion-Panvel Highway.

The damage to the bridge occurred on February 2, when a truck crashed into the structure between 2 am and 3 am. This impact caused severe damage to the steel structure and railings of the bridge. Following a formal inspection conducted on February 9, officials confirmed that certain sections require urgent repairs.

As a precautionary measure, pedestrian access to the bridge was suspended after it was declared a safety hazard. An NMMC official stated, "The FOB poses a risk to citizens, and repair work is essential to ensure public safety."

Meanwhile, the Mumbai Traffic Police have announced temporary closures on Ramnath Goenka Marg, as required, until March 10. The restriction will be implemented from Sakhar Bhavan to the Vidhan Bhavan junction during the Maharashtra Budget Session.

Authorities have urged commuters to plan their travel accordingly and follow traffic advisories to avoid inconvenience.
