Shiv Sena's Bhavana Gawali Eyeing Victory In Maharashtra's Risod Assembly Constituency
Maharashtra has a rich tradition of young politicians, especially in the Shiv Sena, which has consistently given opportunities to youth.
Many Shiv Sena MLAs who are currently serving their third or fourth terms were first elected in their 30s or 40s. The party has similarly favoured young leaders for parliamentary positions as well.

Bhavana Gawali holds the distinction of being the youngest MP to represent the Yavatmal-Washim Lok Sabha constituency for a consecutive 25 years, from 1999 to 2024.
She began representing the constituency in the Lok Sabha at the age of 26. Currently, she has been nominated by Shiv Sena to the Legislative Council and is also contesting in the Legislative Assembly.
Bhavana is the daughter of Pundalikrao Gawali, a prominent Shiv Sena leader in Yavatmal-Washim. Pundalikrao Gawali played a significant role in expanding the party's base in the district.
In 1999, Bhavana Gawali was given her first Lok Sabha ticket and emerged victorious. From 1999 to 2000, she served as a member of the Parliament's Commerce Committee. Between 2002 and 2001, she worked on the Women's Empowerment Committee. In 2004, she won a consecutive second term, and from 2007 to 2009, she was a member of the Health and Family Welfare Committee.
Despite a Congress wave in 2009, she won the Yavatmal-Washim Lok Sabha seat for the third time. She was also appointed to the Transport, Tourism, and Culture Committee.
In the Narendra Modi wave of 2014, she retained her seat as an MP and was appointed to the Standing Committee on Human Resource Development and the Health and Family Welfare Committee in September 2014.
Bhavana Gawali's popularity remained steadfast, even during the 2019 elections, when she was re-elected to the 17th Lok Sabha for the fifth time.
In September 2019, she was reappointed to the Health and Family Welfare Standing Committee and later became a member of the Women and Child Development Advisory Committee in October 2020.
In 2022, Shiv Sena underwent a major reshuffle when a majority of its elected representatives, rejecting Uddhav Thackeray's leadership, shifted allegiance to Eknath Shinde. Initially, 40 Shiv Sena MLAs backed Shinde, followed by 13 MPs, including Bhavana Gawli.
Although she wasn't given the chance to contest the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, she was accommodated by being appointed to the Legislative Council. She has now been nominated to contest from the Risod Assembly constituency.
Bhavana Gawali has inherited both her father Pundalikrao's legacy and her extensive 25-year-long political career. Her strong public relations, aggressive style, organisational skills, and authority over administration are notable traits. She also holds significant influence over the public in the district.
Eknath Shinde has assured that none of his supporters will face setbacks, which indicates that he will provide robust support for Bhavana Gawli.
The Mahayuti government has made substantial investments in the Risod constituency. Under the leadership of Eknath Shinde, numerous development initiatives have been implemented here. The Banjara community, which forms a substantial portion of the constituency, venerates Pohradevi as their sacred place.
A Sant Sevalal Maharaj Bhavan, built with government funding of 700 crore rupees, stands here as a symbol of pride and a dedicated space for the Banjara community.
A new medical college has also recently been inaugurated in Risod, providing an excellent opportunity for students aspiring for medical education.
Additionally, the Mahayuti government has addressed the water needs in the Malegaon taluka of this constituency by allocating a 45-crore drinking water scheme, which aims to resolve the local water shortage.
The "Mukhyamantri Mazi Ladki Bahin" scheme has also been actively promoted in the constituency, benefiting thousands of women.
With her extensive 25-year political experience, the backing of Eknath Shinde, organisational strength, and the development initiatives carried out by the Mahayuti government, Bhavana Gawali's supporters are confident that she will secure her place in the Legislative Assembly for the first time.
