Shiv Sena (UBT) Manifesto For Maharashtra Elections Out: Uddhav Promises Free Education, Vows To Scrap Dharavi

Uddhav Thackeray, the chief of Shiv Sena (UBT), on Friday released his party's manifesto for the upcoming Maharashtra assembly elections, promising a significant focus on education and economic stability.

Thackeray stated that the manifesto includes assurances of free education for male students, mirroring the existing policy for female students, and a commitment to stabilizing the prices of essential goods. He emphasized that these initiatives are part of the broader goals the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) coalition, which also comprises Congress and Sharad Pawar's NCP (SP).

At the heart of Thackeray's announcements was the pledge to scrap the Dharavi redevelopment project, citing potential negative impacts on Mumbai. Furthermore, he outlined plans for a new housing policy tailored to Maharashtra and Mumbai's rapid urbanization.

Thackeray also assured that, under the MVA's leadership, there would be a reconsideration of the cluster development approach for Koliwadas and Gaothans, emphasizing the importance of resident consultation.

In addition to infrastructural commitments, Thackeray highlighted job creation as a key objective. This focus on employment reflects the party's broader economic strategy, aiming to bolster Maharashtra's economy and ensure its citizens' prosperity. The former chief minister's statement on job creation underscores the MVA's dedication to addressing unemployment and fostering a conducive environment for job growth.

Thackeray's commentary on the Ladki Bahin Yojana, a flagship initiative of the Maharashtra government, sparked curiosity. While he acknowledged the scheme's financial viability, he refrained from detailing its future under a potential MVA government.

This scheme, which provides financial assistance to women from families with annual incomes below Rs 2.5 lakh, represents a significant welfare measure. Thackeray's cryptic comments hint at possible modifications or continuations of the program but leave the specifics open to speculation.

The Shiv Sena (UBT) chief also sought to dispel rumors of discord within the MVA. On the eve of his campaign tour outside Mumbai, Thackeray reassured supporters that the coalition remains united, despite his physical absence from upcoming MVA press events in Mumbai. His statement reflects the coalition's efforts to maintain solidarity amid the electoral fray.

However, Maharashtra BJP chief Chandrashekhar Bawankule on Thursday took potshot at Uddhav over the manifesto. "For two and a half years, he (Uddhav) engaged in politics with his family's interests as his sole focus, often neglecting the wider community. His tendency to work from home shows no signs of changing." Bawankule claimed.
