Shiv Sena-NDA alliance will remain intact at Centre: Uddhav Thackeray

Mumbai, Sept 30: In a U-turn, Shiv Sena Uddhav Thackeray on Tuesday made an announcement that his party will not pull out of the NDA government at the Centre, a day after saying Anant Geete, the Union Heavy Industries Minister will quit, after PM Narendra Modi returns from his five-day US visit.

TV News reports said that the Shiv Sena has decided that the alliance with the NDA will remain intact at the Centre.

A news report also said that if Shiv Sena pulls out of the NDA, then all the 42 MP s will have to resign as they were elected as NDA candidates.

Since the 25-year-old alliance broke last week, Sena has been criticising BJP in its mouthpiece 'Saamana'.

Uddhav's announcement followed estranged cousin and MNS chief Raj Thackeray riling him at a poll rally on Sunday for the Sena "sticking to" power in Delhi despite breaking up with BJP.

Raj had said that Uddhav should immediately ask Geete to resign as a mark of protest against the insult meted out to Shiv Sena.

Attacking BJP for ending its 25-year-old alliance with Shiv Sena, Raj had said that had party patriarch Bal Thackeray been alive he would have ended the association a month ago.

Sena, ruling NDA's second largest constituent with 18 Lok Sabha MPs, was upset over poor representation it got in the Modi government as well as Geete's heavy industries portfolio, which it considered light weight.

Ahead of the October 15 assembly elections, Maharashtra has been grappling with unstable politics, as last week, NCP-Congress alliance also came to an end over differences on seat-sharing.

Following the alliance, Prithviraj Chavan resigned as the Maharashtra's chief minister and presently, the President's rule has been imposed in poll-bound state.
