AbRam's sex determination: Shahrukh Khan, wife Gauri in legal battle

The court sent notice to the Khans responding to a Public Litigation Interest (PIL) filed by one social activist -- Varsha Deshpande. The activist accused the Khans of going through a sex determination test before their son AbRam's birth. AbRam is the third child of the celebrity couple.
The child, who was born through surrogacy, has been in news ever since his birth. The activist earlier had moved a magistrate court which had refused to entertain any legal action against the Khans.

Challenging the magistrate court's decision, the activist now moved the Bombay High Court seeking actions against Shahrukh, his wife Gauri and Mumbai-based Jaslok Hospital under the Pre-conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques (Prohibition of Sex Selection) Act (PCPNDT).
Documents related to alleged surrogacy process before AbRam's birth and documents collected by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) during their initial investigation were sought by the petitioner.
Advocate Uday Warunjikar, lawyer of the petitioner, earlier was quoted as saying, "The magistrate rejected our application seeking production and verification of documents following which we approached the High Court,."
The court sent the notice to the Khans on Friday, Dec 6 and posted the case for hearing on Jan 10, 2014.
