Sanjay Nirupam Alleges Attack By Shiv Sena (UBT) Workers Amid Maharashtra Polls

Mumbai, November 20, 2024: Shiv Sena leader and Dindoshi Assembly candidate Sanjay Nirupam has alleged that workers of the rival Shiv Sena (UBT) attacked one of their booth workers during the ongoing Maharashtra Assembly elections.

The incident reportedly occurred in Sanjaynagar, a Muslim-majority area within the Dindoshi constituency.

Sanjay Nirupam

Nirupam, while speaking to ANI, stated, "Polling was peaceful in Dindoshi, with voters casting their ballots as per their choices. However, in Sanjaynagar, our booth worker was attacked by Shiv Sena (UBT) workers. I visited the site, contacted the police, and demanded an FIR be filed against the perpetrators."

He emphasized the need for elections to remain peaceful and called for immediate action against anyone disrupting the process.

Cash-for-Votes Allegations Against BJP

Addressing allegations of cash-for-votes against BJP leader Vinod Tawde, Nirupam dismissed the claims as baseless. He said, "No evidence of ₹5 crore being found exists. These rumors often arise during elections. Tawde was simply meeting party workers, but the opposition tried to create unnecessary chaos."

Voter Turnout in Maharashtra

Maharashtra recorded a sluggish voter turnout of 32.18% by mid-day during the single-phase Assembly elections, according to the Election Commission. Mumbai city witnessed the lowest turnout at 27.73%, while the Naxal-affected Gadchiroli district saw the highest participation, with a turnout of 50.89%.

Turnout percentages in other regions include:

  • Mumbai Suburban: 30.43%
  • Nagpur: 31.65%
  • Thane: 28.35%
  • Pune: 29.03%

BJP Confident of Majority

BJP leader Pankaja Munde expressed confidence that the BJP-Mahayuti alliance would secure a majority and comfortably form the government. Speaking on her campaign efforts, she said, "I attended as many public gatherings as possible, despite time constraints. We are confident of a decisive victory."

As polling progresses, parties continue to rally their supporters and address voter concerns, while authorities strive to ensure a peaceful election process.
