Saif Ali Khan's Stabbing: Why Did Mumbai Police Arrest A Woman From West Bengal?
The investigation into Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan's shocking stabbing case has taken an intriguing turn, with the arrest of a woman from West Bengal. As the details continue to unfold, the Mumbai Police have made a significant development in the case. The woman, identified as Khukhumoni Jahangir Sheikh, is alleged to have played a crucial role in the attack by providing a SIM card to the primary accused, Shariful Islam, a Bangladeshi national, as reported by Firstpost.
The Role of Khukhumoni Jahangir Sheikh

The woman, a resident of Nadia district in West Bengal, was apprehended by the Mumbai Police following a search operation in Chapra, her hometown. The investigation revealed that the SIM card used by the arrested Bangladeshi national, Shariful Islam, was registered in her name, as reported by Firstpost. Sheikh was reportedly acquainted with Fakir, the individual who helped Islam cross the India-Bangladesh border illegally and facilitated his entry into India.
Sheikh told the police that she had moved out of her first husband's home four years ago, after his death, and remarried. She later moved to Chapra, where she became involved with Fakir, who used her identity to obtain the SIM card that was later used by Islam for criminal activities in Mumbai.
How Did the SIM Card Reach Islam?
According to her statement, Sheikh claimed that she lost the phone and the SIM card during a trip to Kolkata three years ago. The police are now investigating the link between this SIM card and Islam's movements, specifically how it was used in Mumbai, which is approximately 2 kilometers from the Bangladesh border.
Who Is Shariful Islam?
Islam, who entered India through the Dawki River near Meghalaya seven months ago, was arrested for the brutal stabbing of Saif Ali Khan. Police found that he had entered India illegally using a local resident's Aadhaar card in Bengal to obtain a mobile SIM card. After moving to Mumbai, Islam lived and worked without furnishing official documents, choosing jobs where he didn't need any identification, as per PTI reports.
Further investigation revealed that Islam had used a learner's driver's license and a Bangladeshi National Identity Card to confirm his citizenship. His father, however, has denied the charges, claiming that his son was being framed and vowed to seek assistance from the Bangladeshi foreign ministry.
The Stabbing Incident
On January 16, 2025, Saif Ali Khan was attacked in his Bandra residence during a failed burglary attempt. The actor was stabbed six times and rushed to Lilavati Hospital, where he underwent significant surgeries for his injuries. Islam, the alleged assailant, was caught after a 70-hour manhunt and has since been placed under police remand, as reported by PTI.
Islam reportedly confessed to the crime, stating that after Khan confronted him, he stabbed the actor in a desperate attempt to escape. He also admitted to hiding in the building's garden for nearly two hours before leaving the premises.
What's Next for the Investigation?
The Mumbai Police have now arrested Sheikh, a key figure in this complex case, and are working to uncover the full extent of her involvement, as per media reports. Authorities have requested transit remand for her and are continuing to probe her connections to Fakir and Islam. The investigation is ongoing, with the police considering the possibility that there may have been other individuals involved in the crime.
As the case progresses, the role of the woman from West Bengal adds an unexpected layer to the investigation, shedding light on the network of individuals allegedly connected to the stabbing. The Mumbai Police are expected to make further arrests as more details come to light.
