Saif Ali Khan Attack: Fingerprint Evidence Mismatches With Suspect Shariful Islam

In a surprising twist to the incident involving actor Saif Ali Khan, who was the victim of an attempted break-in and stabbing at his Mumbai residence, the fingerprints gathered at the scene do not match those of the suspect, Shariful Islam.

This revelation came to light after Mumbai Police sent the 19 sets of fingerprints found at Khan's residence to the state Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for analysis.

The CID's system-generated report confirmed the mismatch, prompting the police to submit additional samples for further examination, reported NDTV.

The incident, which took place on January 15, left the actor with six stab wounds, including a potentially fatal one to his spine, leading to spinal fluid leakage. The assailant, who broke into Khan's home and attacked him with a knife, managed to flee the scene.

Despite the severity of his injuries, doctors have reported that Khan is on the mend after being discharged from Lilavati Hospital. He has been advised to rest in bed for a week, with one of the injuries being perilously close to severing his spinal cord by a mere 2 mm.

Investigations have uncovered that the accused, Shariful, a Bangladeshi national who entered India illegally, was allegedly promised fake citizenship documents in exchange for money, which led him to target Khan's home.

Mumbai Police are now on the hunt for the individual who was supposed to furnish Shariful with these documents.

Shariful's capture was facilitated by CCTV footage, though police are still piecing together more evidence to solidify their case against him.

To aid in identifying the assailant caught on the building's CCTV, Mumbai Police enlisted the help of Western Railway. The suspect is believed to have boarded a train from Bandra station.

Utilising facial recognition technology, Railways was able to shortlist potential suspects who matched the appearance of the intruder. This step was taken as the footage capturing the intruder's exit from the building did not provide a clear image.

As the investigation progresses, police efforts to compile incontrovertible evidence continue, aiming to ensure a robust prosecution of Shariful Islam.
