In a surprising turn of events, an editorial in Saamna, the mouthpiece of Uddhav Thackeray's Shiv Sena (UBT), has lauded Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis for his efforts in the Naxal-hit district of Gadchiroli. The praise comes just weeks after Thackeray met with Fadnavis, fueling rumours of a potential thaw in relations between the Shiv Sena faction and the BJP.

The editorial commended Fadnavis for prioritizing Gadchiroli, where 11 Naxalites, including a key figure, Tarakka, surrendered during the Chief Minister's recent visit. It highlighted Fadnavis's commitment to development and transformation in the region, emphasizing his decision to spend New Year's Day inaugurating projects and laying foundations for new initiatives in the district.

"While many cabinet ministers sought plum assignments, Chief Minister Fadnavis chose to focus on Gadchiroli, ushering in a new phase of progress in this Naxal-affected area," the editorial stated. It also suggested that turning Gadchiroli from a "Naxalite district" into a "Steel City" would be a commendable achievement, provided the transformation benefits local tribal communities rather than serving the interests of mining tycoons.

The article further noted, "If the rule of the constitution replaces the rule of the gun in Gadchiroli, it is a significant step forward, and Chief Minister Fadnavis deserves appreciation."
