Relief for South Mumbai Residents: Water Supply Upgrade In Progress

The water supply situation in South Mumbai is set to see a significant improvement. The municipality has taken a crucial step to address the water woes in the E section by initiating the tender process for enhancing the water infrastructure. The total expenditure for this project is estimated to be Rs 11.48 crores.

The E section encompasses areas such as Mazgaon, Byculla, Mumbai Central, Agripada, and Wadi Bandar. These regions hold historical and cultural significance, with numerous British-era buildings and BDD chawls. The population density in these areas is high, which has led to frequent complaints about inadequate water supply. The municipality recognises the urgency and is making substantial efforts to meet this growing need.

Additionally, significant landmarks such as the Veermata Jijabai Bhosle Botanical Garden and Zoo, Joseph Baptista Garden, Mazgaon Hill Gadevi Temple, and Mhatharpakkhadi are situated here. Prominent hospitals in the area include Kasturba Hospital, Nair Hospital, J.J. Hospital, Central Railway Hospital, Prince Ali Khan Hospital, and Masina Hospital.

New Water Supply Initiatives

To improve the water supply in South Mumbai, several initiatives are planned:

1. New Pipelines: The project will include the laying of new pipelines to enhance the water distribution network.

3. The tender process for these works has already begun, and applications are being invited from eligible contractors.
