Pune: Speeding Audi Kills Gig Worker, Injures Three; Driver Arrested

One person was killed and three others injured in Pune when a speeding luxury car collided with two two-wheelers in Mundhwa early on Friday morning.

The driver of the Audi, Ayush Pradip Tayal, 34, has been arrested on charges of culpable homicide not amounting to murder, according to police reports.

The deceased has been identified as Rauf Akbar Shaikh, while Tayal, a resident of Hadapsar, was taken into custody. A senior police officer confirmed that Tayal's blood samples had been collected to determine whether he was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the incident.

R Raja, Deputy Commissioner of Police, stated that Tayal was driving from ABC Road towards Tadi Gutta Chowk when his car first collided with a two-wheeler at approximately 1:30 am. The three individuals on the two-wheeler sustained injuries.

The car then struck another two-wheeler, severely injuring the rider, Shaikh. He was rushed to a private hospital in Hadapsar but later succumbed to his injuries.

Tayal fled the scene, but the police tracked him down by reviewing CCTV footage from the area, identifying the vehicle's licence plate. He was subsequently arrested at his Hadapsar residence.

A First Information Report (FIR) has been filed against Tayal at Mundhwa police station under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including Section 105 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder).
