Navi Mumbai Water Cut Alert: BMC Confirms Supply Disruption After Technical Glitch at Panjrapur Station

Mumbai is witnessing reduced water pressure on Monday following a technical malfunction at the 3A Pumping Station in Panjrapur, which disrupted the city's primary water supply network. Officials from the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) confirmed that the issue arose after a 230-volt AC contactor in the diesel generator (DG) set failed, causing multiple pumps to trip and halt operations.

According to BMC engineers, the damaged contactor requires immediate replacement. To complete the repair, an hour-long electrical isolation will be carried out. The civic body stated that the restoration work is being conducted on a "war footing" to ensure the earliest possible resumption of normal water supply. During this maintenance window, water distribution across Mumbai will continue, though with considerably reduced pressure. Areas relying on the Panjrapur pumping station-which supplies a significant portion of the city-are likely to experience low water pressure until repairs are finalized.

BMC officials said civic engineers are already on-site and working closely with the electricity department to minimize downtime. "Our teams are working round the clock to restore operations. Once the replacement is completed, the water pressure will return to normal," a senior BMC official said.

The civic administration has appealed to residents to use water carefully and avoid wastage until the situation stabilizes. Tanker services have also been placed on standby to address any emergency needs.

The Panjrapur pumping station is one of Mumbai's major water supply hubs, responsible for managing a large share of the city's daily water distribution. Although occasional disruptions for maintenance are common, Monday's technical fault has again underscored the strain on Mumbai's aging water infrastructure. Officials expect that the city's normal water supply will be restored later in the day once the repair work concludes.
