Navi Mumbai Airport Ready For Takeoff: Inauguration Scheduled For April 2025

The residents of Mumbai will soon have access to flights from the newly constructed Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA), as per a Times Now report. The airport is expected to start commercial operations in the second half of May 2025, following its inauguration on April 17, 2025, according to Arun Bansal, CEO of Adani Airport Holdings.

The first commercial flight landed successfully at NMIA on Sunday, December 29, 2024, marking a significant milestone for the airport. An IndiGo flight was given a ceremonial water cannon salute as it touched down, symbolising the airport's readiness for future operations.

Bansal shared details about the first terminal in the same report, which will have the capacity to handle two crore passengers annually. Once all phases are completed, the airport's total capacity will rise to 9 crore passengers per year. The new facility will feature two parallel runways, which will significantly increase passenger capacity, surpassing the existing Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport.

The airport's location offers excellent connectivity to South Mumbai through Atal Setu, as well as links to other Metro lines, ensuring easy access for the entire Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR). CIDCO Managing Director Vijay Singhal confirmed the comprehensive transport connections, making the airport well-linked to the region.

Navi Mumbai Airport CEO BVJK Sharma described the successful trial flight as a key milestone in the project's development. Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis expressed his excitement, calling it a historic achievement for the state. He stated in the report, "Maharashtra's skies just got brighter" with the successful validation of the first commercial flight at NMIA.

With the airport set to open its doors in mid-2025, it is expected to play a crucial role in enhancing connectivity and contributing to the region's growth.
