Mumbra Train Incident: What Is The Cause Of The Mishap That Took Several Lives In Maharashtra?
In an unfortunate incident, eight passengers travelling towards Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) fell from an excessively crowded train at Mumbra railway station in Thane district on Monday.
What Led To The Train Mishap In Mumbra?
While the excessive crowd was said to be the cause of the mishap, Swapnil Dhanraj Nila, CPRO, Central Railway, has given further explanation on what led to the train mishap. According to him, the passengers collided with each other due to which several people fell from the moving train.

The train was on its way to Thane's Kasara area from Mumbai's Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus.
Speaking to reporters, he said, "This incident happened between Mumbra-Diva railway stations on the down/fast Line. People travelling on the footboard on a local train from Kasara and similarly those on a train going towards CSMT, collided with each other and fell."
Was There a Collision Between 2 Trains?
He clarified that there was no train collision. He explained, "In this incident, the passengers travelling on footboards in trains in opposite directions got entangled. This is one of the suspected reasons for the incident, as informed by a passenger. The distance between two trains is 1.5-2 meters, but on curves, a slight tilt happens, and this could be an additional reason for the incident."

Meanwhile, Maharashtra Assembly Speaker and BJP leader Rahul Narwekar said that is an unfortunate incident. "The government, the railway administration will take necessary steps, but we have seen in last few years, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has done an unprecedented work in Mumbai circuit, but the population is swelling, when working capacity goes beyond, overcrowding happens, but this is unfortunate, we need to find a solution," he added.
