Mumbai's Water Supply Crisis: 30-Minute Reductions In These Areas; Timings Inside
Residents of Sewri and Kalachowki have been facing severe water supply issues in recent days, according to a Lokmat report. They allege that the water service is running 10 to 30 minutes shorter than usual, leading to significant inconvenience. The water storage in all seven reservoirs that supply water to Mumbai has now dropped to 47 per cent. As the summer heat rises, the evaporation rate is expected to increase, further reducing water levels.
The temperature in the city is currently at 37 degrees Celsius, which is accelerating evaporation, leading to further concerns about water scarcity. The water supply needs to be sustained for the next three to four months, but already some parts of Mumbai are experiencing shortages. This has become a growing concern for residents who rely on consistent water supply, especially during the hot months.

Sewri has been facing low-pressure water supply for the past few months. Former Uddhav Sena corporator Sachin Padwal has highlighted that the supply in Sewri East and West is running significantly short. The water supply is reportedly being reduced by 10 to 30 minutes compared to regular times. Despite protests like the Handa Morcha in October, led by MLA Ajay Chaudhary, the situation has not improved.
In areas such as Retibandar, water is available between 6 to 9 pm, but it is turned off at 8:45 pm. In Sewri Gadi Adda, water starts coming at 7:10 pm and ends at 8:45 pm. Other areas, like Indiranagar and Haji Bandar Road, experience similar issues, with a reduction of approximately 30 minutes in water availability.
In light of these ongoing issues, Padwal has submitted a request to the municipality, urging them to restore the water supply to its normal timings.
