Mumbaikars, Brace For Independence Day Traffic Changes: Key Roads Closed, Alternative Routes Listed
In preparation for the Independence Day celebrations on August 15, the Mumbai Traffic Police has implemented special traffic arrangements to ensure the smooth flow of vehicles near Mantralaya, the seat of the Maharashtra government. To facilitate the flag-hoisting ceremony and other events, certain roads leading to Mantralaya will be closed to regular traffic during the morning hours.
According to an official announcement posted on X, formerly Twitter, the Mumbai Traffic Police stated, "In order to facilitate the smooth movement of traffic during the Flag-hoisting ceremony being held at Mantralaya on 15th August 2024, the following changes have been made. These restrictions exclude emergency service vehicles such as Fire Brigade, Ambulance, and Police."

Road Closures
The following roads will be closed from 6:00 AM to 11:00 AM:
1. Madam Cama Road: From Venutai Chavan Chowk (Air India Junction) to Ramnath Poddar Chowk (Godrej Junction) - both directions.
2. Free Press Road: From Valmiki Chowk to Rajguru Chowk (Mantralaya Junction).
3. General Jagganath Bhosale Marg: From Sant Sevalal Chowk to Rajguru Chowk (Mantralaya Junction).
Alternative Routes
Mumbaikars are advised to use the following alternative routes during the restricted hours:
I. For Vehicles Heading from N.S. Road to Colaba/Cuff Parade:
Use N.S. Road (South Bound) - Kilachand Chowk (Sunder Mahal Junction) - Left at Ahilyabai Holkar Chowk (Churchgate Junction) - Right at Ramnath Poddar Chowk (Godrej Junction) towards Colaba or Cuffe Parade.
II. For Vehicles Heading from Cuffe Parade to CST/Churchgate:
Use Dipak Jog Chowk (Lalit Junction) - Right at Ramnath Poddar Chowk (Godrej Junction) - Right onto Karmaveer Bhaurao Patil Marg towards CST or Ahilyabai Holkar Chowk (Churchgate).
III. For Vehicles Heading from Cuffe Parade to N.S. Road:
Use Dipak Jog Chowk (Lalit Junction) - Sant Sevalal Chowk - Left at V.V. Rao Road - Right onto Free Press Journal Marg - Right at Valmiki Chowk - Left onto Barrister Rajni Patel Marg - Left onto Jamnalal Bajaj Marg - Right onto K. Vinay Shah Marg - Right onto N.S. Road.
Routes For Invitees
Special routes have been designated for invitees attending the Independence Day event at Mantralaya:
I. From Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Road:
Use Venutai Chavan Chowk (Air India Junction) - Left onto Madam Cama Road - Jeevan Bima Junction - Left onto Jeevan Bima Marg - Mantralaya Garden Gate - Mantralaya.
II. From Maharshi Karve Road:
Use HT Parekh Marg - West entrance (Garden Gate Road) - Mantralaya.
III. From Colaba, Fort Area:
Use Rajguru Chowk - Mantralaya Main Gate - Mantralaya.
IV. From Cuffe Parade/General Jagganath Bhosale Road:
Use Rajguru Chowk (Mantralaya Junction) - Mantralaya Main Gate - Mantralaya.
Mumbaikars are urged to plan their travel accordingly to avoid inconvenience and to cooperate with the traffic police to ensure a smooth and safe celebration of Independence Day.
