Mumbai Weather Update: Will Rains Play Spoilsport On Ganesh Festival?
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) on Thursday issued a yellow alert to Mumbai and several other parts of Maharashtra till September 18.
"Due to active monsoon conditions, enhanced rainfall activity is expected over parts of Konkan, Madhya Maharashtra & Marathwada during 15-18. Heavy to very heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms at isolated places is very likely over these regions during the above period. Enhanced rainfall activity is also expected over parts of Vidarbha from September 14," the weather-monitoring agency said on X (formerly Twitter).

The IMD's statement clearly indicates that Mumbai will witness plenty of rain just before the commencement of the 10-day Ganpati festival. However, people just hope that it will not play spoilsport
As per the weather forecast, thunderstorms with lightning are expected to persist in isolated areas including Nagpur, Gondia, and Bhandara. Also, there is a high probability of light to moderate rainfall continuing in a few places like Gondia, Bhandara, Nagpur, and isolated areas in Chandrapur, Gadchiroli, Wardha, and Yavatmal. Furthermore, isolated places such as Amravati, Akola, Washim, and Buldhana are likely to experience light rainfall.
The prevailing weather conditions are a consequence of the development of a low-pressure system in the Northwestern Bay of Bengal, extending to the adjacent coasts of North Odisha and West Bengal. Over the next two days, this low-pressure area is expected to track across Odisha and Chhattisgarh
Meanwhile, a private jet veered off the runway while landing at the Mumbai airport on Thursday amid heavy rains and all the eight people, who were onboard, have been hospitalised with injuries, according to officials.
The Learjet 45 aircraft VT-DBL belonging to VSR Ventures, was coming from Visakhapatnam and skidded off the runway while landing at the Mumbai airport, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) said in a statement.
