Mumbai Weather Update: IMD Issues Yellow Alert, Warns Of Heavy Rain
On Sunday morning, parts of Mumbai experienced heavy rain, providing much-needed relief from the recent heatwave. This marks the onset of the southwest monsoon, expected to bring significant showers to central India and alleviate the ongoing heatwave in the northern plains.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for Mumbai, indicating the need for caution due to expected weather conditions. A video shared by the Press Trust of India on X, formerly known as Twitter, shows people walking with umbrellas near the Gateway of India, illustrating the city's response to the rain.

Sunil Kamble, Chief Scientist at the IMD, told ANI, "The pace of rain in Mumbai had reduced slightly in the last 2-3 days, but now it is gaining momentum. The monsoon current is becoming moderately strong. For the coming 2-3 days, we have given yellow alerts in Mumbai, Thane, and Raigad areas. We have also given yellow alerts for the entire Vidarbha."
