Mumbai Weather Update: IMD Issues Yellow Alert For Today, But Mumbaikars Hope For More Rainfall
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for Mumbai today. Heavy rainfall is expected in Mumbai and its suburbs. The maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to be around 32 degrees Celsius and 27 degrees Celsius, respectively. Occasional heavy showers are predicted, and wind speeds are forecast to moderate.
According to the Meteorological Department's forecast, the country is expected to receive 106 per cent of the average rainfall this year. Additionally, it is predicted that most parts of Maharashtra will experience more than average rainfall. The 'El Nino' condition is expected to remain neutral in the early phase. However, in the second phase of the monsoon, around July or August, 'La Nina' conditions are likely to develop. The Meteorological Department has indicated that these La Nina conditions are favourable for this year's monsoon in the country.

Everyone in Mumbai is eager for rain, as the water reserves in the lakes are nearly depleted. With the increase in the speed of the western winds, the Meteorological Department predicts that the intensity of rain will rise in Mumbai and some parts of the state throughout the week.
In the last few days, Mumbai has experienced heavy rain, though the afternoons remain hot. Despite the early arrival of the monsoon in Maharashtra this year, Mumbaikars are still waiting for continuous heavy rain.
Mumbai Weather Forecast For Next Five Days
The IMD has predicted the following weather conditions for Mumbai over the next five days. On 27 June, the minimum temperature is expected to be 25 degrees Celsius and the maximum 32 degrees Celsius, with a cloudy sky and moderate rain. On 28 June, the minimum temperature will likely be 25 degrees Celsius and the maximum 32 degrees Celsius, again with a cloudy sky and moderate rain.
Similar conditions are expected on 29 June, with temperatures ranging from 25 degrees Celsius to 33 degrees Celsius, and a cloudy sky with light rain. Rain is predicted on 30 June and 1 July, with temperatures remaining between 26 degrees Celsius and 32 degrees Celsius.
June in Mumbai is typically characterised by high temperatures ranging from 28 degrees Celsius to 31 degrees Celsius. The month sees frequent rainfall, with an average of 15 to 22 rainy days, consistent with the city's tropical monsoon climate. This period of heavy precipitation is expected to continue, providing both relief and challenges to the residents of Mumbai.
IMD Issues Yellow Alert
The IMD has issued yellow alerts for the districts of Thane, Raigad, Pune, Kolhapur, and Satara, predicting heavy rainfall in isolated places. Additionally, a yellow alert has been issued for Akola, Amravati, Bhandara, Buldhana, Chandrapur, Gadchiroli, Gondia, Nagpur, Wardha, and Washim. These regions are likely to experience thunderstorms with lightning accompanied by gusty winds reaching speeds of 30-40 km/h in isolated places.
IMD Issues Orange Alert
Furthermore, the IMD has issued an orange alert for Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg. These regions are expected to experience heavy to very heavy rainfall in isolated places.
Monsoon Update
Conditions are favourable for the further advance of the Southwest Monsoon into more parts of the North Arabian Sea and Gujarat State. It is also expected to advance into more parts of Madhya Pradesh, the remaining parts of Chhattisgarh, West Bengal, Jharkhand, and Bihar, as well as some parts of Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand over the next three to four days.
