Mumbai Weather Alert: IMD Issues Yellow Warning As Rains To Intensify Till June 24

The monsoon, which officially reached Mumbai on May 26, continues to bring consistent rainfall to the city. In its latest update, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast a slight rise in rainfall intensity over the next three days. In view of this, the Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC), Mumbai, has issued a yellow alert from June 22 to June 24.

"We anticipate a slight increase in rainfall activity between June 22 and 24 due to strengthening and alignment of the westerly winds," said Sushma Nair, Scientist at RMC, IMD. She clarified that the alert is precautionary and there is no cause for concern.

According to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), Mumbai is expected to record a maximum temperature of 32°C and a minimum of 25°C on Sunday. Tidal movements for the day include a low tide at 1.30 am (1.12 metres) and a high tide at 8.25 am (3.78 metres).

As of the morning of June 21, the seven lakes that supply water to Mumbai held 25.87% of their total storage capacity, translating to 3,74,419 million litres out of a total 14,47,363 million litres. Despite ongoing showers, daytime temperatures continue to hover around 32°C with high humidity levels, which the IMD considers typical for Mumbai in June.

"Even with the rainfall, temperatures around 32°C are normal for this season. A one or two-degree variation is within expected range," Nair added.

Looking ahead, the IMD predicts that from June 25, normal monsoon conditions are likely to resume, with moderate rainfall expected and no major disruptions to daily life anticipated.
