Mumbai Viral Video: Ticket Clerk’s Refusal To Provide Change Turns Into A Hilarious Social Media Moment

A video showing a heated argument between a Commercial Cum Ticket Clerk (CCTC) and a passenger at a Mumbai ticket counter has gone viral on social media, as per a Mint report. The incident has sparked a range of humorous and critical reactions online.

What Happened?

The video, originally shared by Comedy Culture.in and later posted on the 'Ghar Ke Kalesh' profile on X, formerly known as Twitter shows a passenger purchasing a return ticket for Kandivali. The passenger handed Rs 50 at the counter but was denied change by the clerk, despite the presence of bundles of Rs 50 and Rs 20 notes at the counter.

As the passenger insisted on receiving change, the clerk responded, "Side me hato. Mujhe disturb kar rahe ho, abhi bulao Railway Protection Force (RPF) ko" (Move aside. You are disturbing me, should I call the Railway Protection Force?). A colleague of the clerk then suggested that the passenger use the scanner to make the payment, but the passenger refused, stating, "Ni h mere paas scanner" (I don't have a scanner).

Online Reactions

The viral video has prompted various reactions from netizens, with some providing humorous takes, while others raised serious concerns about the incident.

One comment read: "UPI Karo na..." (Use UPI), while another added: "Change se itna bhi lagaav nahi hona chahiye ki job change karna pad jaye" (There shouldn't be such attachment to change that one has to change jobs).

Other comments included: "Paytm Karo" (Use Paytm), and, "Bhai introvert hu n change manga bi ni jata, isliye UPI hi kr deti cash hote hue bhi" (I am an introvert, I can't even ask for change, that's why I always use UPI even when I have cash).

Some viewers suggested that the clerk's actions were intentional: "Yhi nautanki krte h so that passenger chute k chakar m ense paise liye bina chla jaye" (They create this drama so the passenger leaves without getting change).

Others voiced their frustrations with the system: "First of all there should be GPay option, card payment option, then the counter staff should arrange notes from the bank before they start work. Indian government employees are incompetent."

Many echoed similar sentiments, noting that such issues were common at Mumbai local stations: "It's a general problem all over Mumbai local stations. We, the dumb travellers, never raised such issues decades over. Railways never take action on such small issues."

One final comment summed up a shared concern: "Pay commission lagu hone ke baad dega wo chhutta" (After the pay commission is implemented, only then will they have the change).

The incident has drawn attention to the ongoing frustrations faced by commuters at ticket counters in Mumbai, highlighting both the challenges and the humor that often accompany daily travel in the city.
