Drink-And-Drive Cases In Maharashtra

Maharashtra has recently witnessed a troubling increase in drink-and-drive incidents. In Navi Mumbai's Vashi region, a speeding car collided with an auto-rickshaw on a busy street, an event captured on CCTV. The footage shows the auto-rickshaw moving at a moderate speed when it is violently struck by the speeding car, which dragged it several metres before crushing it against the footpath. The driver of the auto-rickshaw did not survive the crash.

In May, a 17-year-old boy driving a Porsche while intoxicated caused a collision in Pune's Kalyani Nagar, resulting in the deaths of two IT professionals. The incident drew outrage when the accused was initially granted bail with minimal conditions, including writing an essay and providing a surety from his grandfather.

Another case involved Mihir Shah, the son of a Shiv Sena leader, who was found to be driving a car that killed a 45-year-old woman and dragged her for a kilometre. Shah and his driver allegedly removed the woman's body from the car, switched seats, and then ran over her again. Shah, who had been on the run, was apprehended after three days.

These incidents highlight a growing problem of reckless driving and impaired drivers posing serious risks to public safety across Maharashtra.
