Mumbai Traffic Update: Plan Your Commute! 10 Bus Route Changes Amid Sion Station Bridge Overhaul

In Mumbai, a 110-year-old bridge at Sion station on Central Railway is set to undergo demolition and reconstruction alongside the addition of fifth and sixth railway tracks. This decision follows safety concerns raised after the collapse of the Gokhale Bridge in Andheri.

The existing bridge at Sion station will be demolished and replaced with a new bridge featuring RCC (Reinforced Cement Concrete) slabs. To ensure safety, heavy vehicles are now prohibited from using the bridge. As a result, the BEST (Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport) has made adjustments to 10 bus routes in the area. These changes are expected to remain in effect for the next 18 months during the construction period.

Mumbai Traffic Update

Buses originating from areas such as Chembur and South Mumbai that previously used the bridge will now be diverted via alternate routes. For instance, BKC-bound buses from Chembur and buses originating from South Mumbai will now divert left at the signal before Sion Hospital due to the closure of the bridge to heavy vehicles.

Here are some of the specific changes to bus routes:

1. Bus 11 Limited will now travel via Bandra Colony and Kalanagar, ensuring connectivity along Sulochana Sethi Road and Navinagar Hospital.
2. Buses like 181, 255, 348, and 355 will be rerouted to pass through Lokmanya Tilak Hospital and Rani Laxmibai Chowk via Kalanagar and Sulochana Sethi routes.
3. Route adjustments will also affect buses such as A376, which will now travel from Rani Laxmibai Chowk to Lokmanya Tilak Hospital via Sulochana Sethi and Banwari Camp in Mahim via Raheja.
4. Additionally, buses like C305 will run from Dharavi Agar to Yellow Bangla via T Junction and from Tilak Hospital to Backbay Agar via Sethi Road.
5. Bus routes like AC 72 from Bhayandar station to Kala Killa Agar and C 302 from Mulund bus station to Kala Killa Agar will be discontinued. Buses 176 and 463 will now travel from Kala Killa Agar to Dadar Matunga Station via Labor Camp and Shiv Station 90 feet.

These changes aim to facilitate smooth transportation while ensuring the safety of commuters during the reconstruction of the bridge.
