Mumbai-Pune Expressway Misslink Link Update: New Elevated Corridors To Ease Traffic By February 2027

The Rs 1,100-crore elevated corridor project, aimed at ensuring smooth connectivity between the newly opened Mumbai Trans Harbour Sealink (MTHL) and the Mumbai-Pune Expressway, is set to be completed by February 2027, according to an Indian Express report. The project, which is being implemented by the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA), includes two elevated corridors.

One corridor will run from the Chirle end of the MTHL to Gavan Phata, while the other will connect Palaspe Phata to the Mumbai-Pune Expressway. Both corridors will be six lanes wide, designed to improve traffic flow and ease congestion along the key highways.

The first elevated corridor will span the JNPT-Panvel National Highway (NH-348) between Chirle and Gavan Phata. The project also includes the reconstruction of service roads along this stretch. The second corridor will be built along the Old Mumbai-Pune National Highway (NH-48) in Raigad district, where NH-48 will also be widened to six lanes.

Dr Sanjay Mukherjee, IAS, the Metropolitan Commissioner of MMRDA, described the project as a transformative development for regional connectivity. He emphasised that the new infrastructure would help ease traffic congestion, particularly on NH-348, which sees heavy container traffic from JNPT. "By integrating Atal Setu with the Mumbai-Pune Expressway, we are ensuring efficient traffic dispersal, improving crucial junctions, and addressing congestion on NH-348," said Dr Mukherjee, as per the same report.

The project is being executed by Gawar Construction Ltd at a cost of Rs 1,102.75 crore. Excavation work has already begun, marking the start of this significant infrastructure development.

"This initiative will reshape how people and businesses move between Mumbai and Pune," Dr Mukherjee added in the same report. "Professionals will have the flexibility to live in Pune and work in Mumbai, improving opportunities and the quality of life for many."

The total length of the two corridors will be 4,958 metres in the Chirle section and 1,700 metres in the Palaspe section. Once complete, the corridors are expected to ease traffic congestion, enhance regional accessibility, and contribute to economic growth.
