Mumbai-Pune Expressway: Missing Link Project To Save 30 Minutes; Know Why It's The Most Dangerous Project

The Missing Link project, one of Maharashtra's most dangerous and ambitious infrastructure projects, is nearing completion between Mumbai and Pune. This project, which aims to enhance the Mumbai-Pune Expressway, is designed to make the journey faster and more efficient. The highlight of this project is the construction of a cable-stayed bridge in the Sahyadri mountains, one of the most challenging parts of the project, as per the Zee News report.

This 180-meter-high bridge is being built over a deep valley in the Khandala Ghat. It will be connected by cables at both ends, making it the most thrilling bridge in Maharashtra. Engineers faced many difficulties during the monsoon season, but construction has picked up pace after the rains, and the bridge is nearly finished.

The Missing Link will bypass the Khandala Ghat, a notorious section of the route, making the 14-kilometre stretch between Khopoli and Lonavala much smoother. However, drivers will still pass through Khandala Ghat to enter Lonavala. As part of this project, two 4-lane tunnels are also being constructed. The longest of these tunnels will span 8.87 kilometres, while the second will stretch for 1.67 kilometres.

With 90 per cent of the work already completed, the Missing Link project is set to be operational by 2025. Once complete, it will reduce the distance between Mumbai and Pune by 6 kilometres, saving passengers around 30 minutes of travel time. This significant improvement is expected to ease traffic and make the journey more convenient for commuters.
