Mumbai-Pune Expressway Alert: Major Panvel Exit Shut For Six Months – Check Alternate Routes

The Mumbai-bound exit at Panvel on the Yashwantrao Chavan Mumbai-Pune Expressway will remain completely closed for six months from February 11 due to construction work at Kalamboli Circle, according to a Hindustan Times (HT) report. The Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) is building a new flyover and underpass as part of the Kalamboli Junction improvement project.

According to Navi Mumbai Traffic officials, the closure will affect all types of vehicles, including light and heavy transport, travelling towards Panvel, Mumbra, and JNPT. The restriction will be in place 24 hours a day to ensure smooth construction and prevent congestion in the area.

To manage traffic, authorities have suggested alternative routes. Vehicles heading towards Panvel, Goa, and JNPT from the Mumbai-Pune Expressway will be diverted at Konphata onto NH-48 via Palaspe Circle to reach their destinations. Meanwhile, vehicles travelling from Pune to Mumbai and heading towards Taloja, Kalyan, and Shilphata must continue straight from the Panvel exit onto the Panvel-Sion Highway, take a right under the Purusharth Petrol Pump flyover, and proceed via Roadpali and NH-48.

The restriction order has been issued by Tirupati Kakade, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic), Navi Mumbai, under the Motor Vehicles Act. The closure will remain in effect until the MSRDC completes the construction work. "Once the project is completed, the issue of traffic congestion at Kalamboli Circle will be resolved," DCP Kakade said, as per the HT report.

Authorities have advised motorists to follow the suggested routes and plan their journeys accordingly to avoid delays. Signboards and traffic personnel will be deployed to guide drivers and manage the flow of vehicles efficiently. Regular updates will be provided to keep commuters informed about the progress of the construction work. The Kalamboli Junction improvement project aims to ease traffic congestion and enhance road safety for all commuters in the long run.
