This electoral seat has witnessed a dynamic political landscape, with power oscillating among various parties. Over the years, victories have been shared between candidates from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Congress, Shiv Sena, and Republican Party of India (RPI).

Noteworthy victories include Shiv Sena's Manohar Joshi in 1999 and RPI's Ramdas Athawale in 1998. In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, BJP's Poonam Mahajan clinched victory with 4,86,672 votes, defeating National Congress Party's Priya Dutt, who garnered 3,56,667 votes.
Similarly, in 2014, Poonam Mahajan secured the seat with 4,78,535 votes, surpassing Congress's Priya Sunil Dutt, who received 2,91,764 votes.
