Mumbai: New Year Celebration Turns Fatal As Groups Clash Over Marathi Vs Bhojpuri Songs
New Year celebrations in Mira Road, located near Mumbai, turned tragic when two groups clashed over playing Marathi or Bhojpuri songs, resulting in one person being killed.
According to police sources, the incident occurred around 3 am on January 1 at a MHADA housing complex. While some were celebrating the New Year by dancing to Marathi songs, another group insisted on playing Bhojpuri tracks.

The disagreement over music preferences escalated, particularly as some individuals, who were intoxicated, became agitated, leading to a verbal altercation. The argument soon turned violent, with people attacking each other using bamboo and iron rods.
Among those involved was 23-year-old Raja Periyar, who died from injuries sustained after being struck with an iron rod, according to Kasimira Police. Another individual, Vipul Rai, was seriously injured and both were taken to Mumbai's KEM Hospital, where Periyar later succumbed to his injuries.
The police have arrested Ashish Jadhav and his relatives Amit Jadhav, Prakash Jadhav, and Pramod Yadav, who are accused of assaulting Periyar.
Meanwhile, on New Year's Eve in Mumbai, traffic challans amounting to a staggering Rs 89 lakh were issued as police closely monitored revellers flouting road rules. A total of 17,800 e-challans were issued for traffic offences as Mumbai welcomed 2025 with grand celebrations.
In another incident, a man from Delhi was fatally beaten after he complained about loud music being played during a New Year's Eve party. Dharmender, 40, had a dispute with his neighbours over the noise, and police stated that after he raised the issue, he was beaten to death.
