Mumbai: NCP Leader Baba Siddique Laid To Rest With Full State Honours At Bada Qabristan

Baba Siddique, a leader from the NCP Ajit Pawar faction, was tragically shot dead on Saturday night in Bandra. His funeral was held today at Bada Qabrastan in Marine Lines, where a large crowd gathered. Baba was buried in grave B-13, near his mother's resting place, as per his family's wishes. His mother and aunt are also interred there.

The murder of Siddique has caused a significant political upheaval in Maharashtra, which is set to hold Assembly elections next month. The incident has drawn condolences from many prominent leaders across the nation. Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis, and Ajit Pawar have all expressed their sorrow over Siddique's death. Additionally, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi conveyed his condolences.

Bollywood personalities were also affected by the news of Siddique's demise. Sanjay Dutt visited Lilavati Hospital upon hearing about it, while Salman Khan paid a visit to Siddique's home to offer condolences. The incident has sent shockwaves through Maharashtra's political scene. Two individuals have been arrested in connection with the case, but notorious gangster Lawrence Bishnoi is suspected to be involved. The police are exploring all possible angles, including the Bishnoi connection.

The Mumbai Crime Branch has filed a case at Nirmal Nagar Police Station under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, Arms Act, and Maharashtra Police Act. The case number is 589/2024 and includes Sections 103(1), 109, 125, and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), along with Sections 3, 25, 5, and 27 of the Arms Act and Sections 37 and 137 of the Maharashtra Police Act.

Baba Siddique was a notable figure in Maharashtra politics. Earlier this year, he switched allegiance from Congress to join the NCP (Ajit Pawar faction). He was renowned for hosting lavish Iftar parties attended by Bollywood stars like Salman Khan and Shah Rukh Khan. These events were always star-studded with celebrities from the film industry.

Siddique had been associated with Congress for nearly five decades and served as an MLA from Bandra West three times. He also held the position of State Minister in Maharashtra during his political career.
