Mumbai Metro Services News: Mumbai Metro 3 Phase One Deadline Further Extended To December 2024
Mumbai Metro 3, known as the Aqua Line, is a crucial new addition to Mumbai's transit system, designed to help ease Mumbai's traffic problems.
In a recent development, the Maharashtra Government has announced a revised timeline for completing the first phase of Mumbai Metro 3. Initially planned for completion by September 2024, the project's timeline has been extended to December 2024. This decision came during the state's cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, as per the report shared by the news agency, Mumbai Now.

Mumbai Metro 3 Route
The first phase of Mumbai Metro 3 stretches from SEEPZ (Santacruz Electronics Export Processing Zone) to Bandra Kurla Complex. The project's underground section spans 33.5 kilometres and includes 26 underground stations, slated for launch in July this year after encountering delays due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Mumbai Metro 3's Project Cost
The government has allocated Rs 1,163 crore directly to the Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation to expedite the project, bypassing the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA).
Currently nearing 98 per cent completion, the project has undergone necessary budget adjustments, now at Rs 37,275.50 crore due to extended timelines and cost escalations.
The cabinet also approved a loan of Rs 5,500 crore from HUDCO for the Pune Ring Road East project. Land acquisition efforts for the Mumbai Metro 3 project have secured 535.42 hectares out of 972.07 hectares required, supported by a government allocation of Rs 1,876.29 crore.
