A fatal accident at an under-construction metro rail site in Mumbai's Mulund area has left one person dead and four others injured after a portion of a pillar structure collapsed onto the road.

The incident occurred around 12:15 pm on LBS Road, a busy arterial stretch in front of the Johnson & Johnson factory, triggering panic among commuters and local residents.

A huge piece from the under-construction Metro 4 line fell on a rickshaw and a car today.

Similarly a wall had collapsed and the then newly inaugurated metro line 3 had flooded with rain water last year.

How The Incident Happened

According to officials, a segment of a parapet from the elevated metro structure fell from a height during ongoing construction work. The falling debris struck a passing auto-rickshaw and nearby commuters, leading to casualties and injuries.

Emergency services and local authorities rushed to the site soon after the collapse. The injured were shifted to nearby hospitals for treatment while the area was cordoned off for safety and rescue operations.

Casualties And Immediate Response

Authorities confirmed that one person lost their life in the incident while four others sustained injuries of varying severity. Medical teams are monitoring the condition of those hospitalised.

In an initial statement, the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) said a portion of the parapet segment fell and struck an auto-rickshaw. Officials stated that injured persons were immediately taken for medical care and assistance is being provided.

Teams from the metro project, civic body and disaster management authorities reached the location to secure the site and assess the situation. Further investigation into the cause of the collapse is expected.
