Mumbai Metro Line 7A Tunnel Update: Two New Stations, One Big Airport Link Coming Soon

Mumbai has reached an important milestone in its metro development. As reported by Times Now, the tunnel breakthrough for Metro Line 7A at Bamanwadi has been completed. The event was marked by a ceremony attended by Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.

Metro Line 7A is a 3.4-kilometre extension of the existing Line 7, which runs from Dahisar East to Gundavli. This new section will connect directly to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMI), making it much easier for commuters to reach the airport. Once operational, the line will improve travel between the northern and southern parts of Mumbai, helping passengers save valuable time.

The new extension will feature two stations: an elevated station at Airport Colony and an underground station at the CSMI airport. According to officials, this connection is expected to reduce travel time by up to 60 minutes for people commuting from Mira-Bhayandar in the north to Colaba in the south.

The project is being carried out by the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA). So far, over 52 per cent of the construction work has been completed. The full line is scheduled to be operational by December 2026.

The 7A line is part of a much larger metro plan. At present, MMRDA is working on a 337-kilometre metro network across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region. Metro Lines 1, 2A, and 7 are already running, providing better connectivity across the city. Construction is also progressing on other lines such as 2B, 4, 5, 6, 9, and 12.

Once completed, these lines are expected to ease traffic, shorten travel times, and offer a smoother travel experience for lakhs of daily commuters across Mumbai.
